NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE (DIVISION 2)
Match Day 1: Khalsa vs Tornados*
Final Score: 0-2
Date: 23 February 2019, Saturday
Khalsa League 2 Team's season kicked off on 23 Feb 19 against Tornados. After undergoing a reshuffling of team members and an addition of new players, the new look Khalsa team took on an experienced Tornados team.
Khalsa went into the match with the game plan of moving the ball around, using ball speed to overcome the physicality of the Tornados team. The first quarter started off slowly, with both teams being conservative and lacking circle penetrations at both ends.
The pace of the match picked up in the second quarter. Khalsa managed to move the ball forward and was able to gain some circle entries. However, the end product was lacking. Tornados had their share of attacks. However, Khalsa's solid defence and good goalkeeping by national goalkeeper Mark kept Tornados at bay.
The third quarter started as the same, with Khalsa dominating possession, but yet lacking in the circle penetrations. A few penalty corners were won, however, Khalsa didn't managed to convert the chances. Khalsa was caught by 2 quick breaks by Tornados in the third and fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Tornados took their chances and they took a 2-0 lead.
With the final few minutes in the fourth quarter, Khalsa continued to press forward, looking for a goal to salvage the match. However, all their efforts were lacking any quality in the final 25 yards. Unfortunately for Khalsa, the final whistle was blown and the game was lost.
Much work still needs to be done, and Khalsa will want to recover quickly for their next match against defending champion SRC.
